Prince Charming is not pathetic. NOT AT ALL. David might be, but Prince Charming is definitely not. I will defend that claim to my grave because I think Prince Charming is the most progressive, healthy portrayal of male masculinity on television.
This is a man who enjoys deep, meaningful relationships with his family and woman without having to constantly reassert that he is a man. This is a man who can have a human reaction to a terrible event and cry in front of his wife without being less of a man. This is a man who fought off multiple guards while holding a baby and the reason why it was so badass and hot was not because he was technically proficient and swung that sword like a man, but because his motivation was protecting his family and what made that scene so profound was the emotional connection he had to other people.
Prince Charming is most definitely the equal of Snow White. I just think the majority of people are so used to seeing masculinity being portrayed while downplaying the strength of female characters.
David isn’t perhaps my favourite, but I wouldn’t call him pathetic. I think it’s refreshing to see a male character who doesn’t have all the answers and occasionally messes up.
